Note...Concerning the accuracy of our fishing reports, we rely on the integrity of the Captains and some reliable rec anglers who give us information...thanks to all of them. We are not a commercial site, but in our daily fishing reports we do mention which lures are currently hot...we do not sell lures and do not profit from pushing one particular brand.

While uncommon, attheoak.com does occasionally experience some down time. To ensure our pages are always available, we have mirrored them at www.attheoak.net.

Weather: 65.8º air temp and sunny
The lake: almost flat calm early
Who's out: A bunch of charters and lots of recs
Where are most of them: Between 100 and 200 fow, out front, east and west
The action: Almost everyone said it's a slow pick...one deep water boat said they went out ten miles and it wasn't worth the trip

We've a couple positive reports from close in boats:

One charter had three hits by 6:30...kelly green Spin Docs with Sigg's blue green hypnotist and blue pulse fly on 150' and 170' divers (#2 set) and SS orange crush on the riggers.

Another charter said they had hot early action on his 175' divers...a 42 second Spin Doc/A-Tom-Mik 42 second fly and the other was a a chrome flasher/black & silver fly.

Some other lures: SS metallic frogs, purple thunder, gold bellied spook, 42 second spoon...mostly 65' and 75' down.

FWIW, we're sure we missed a lot of VHF info...our radio kept getting hung up on a popular channel and limited other traffic.

Late Morning Updates..."Lucky" was west a bit in 100 fow and had good salmon action on Spin Docs out 170' and 200' at a #2 set...green glow and white on white Spin Docs, both with purple mirage flies. They also took a nice brown on a blue & white Fishlander.

"Buc-a-roo" also did well on the salmon...biggest was 24 pounds. After a starting the day with a Chinese fire drill the action slowed down to a steady pick. Same lures as mentioned above (first positive report), plus a tranny spoon down deep.

Afternoon Update..."Free Spirit" had a real good report on an excellent catch. Capt. Paul's group had kings to 25 pounds and bows to 12 pounds...more kings than bows/steels today. One productive set-up was a Sigg's green pulse behind a mtn dew Spin Doctor. Their other diver had a kelly green Spin Doc/Sigg's blue pulse fly. Rigger strike zone was 55' to 85' down. They fish both east and west of port out between 150 and 200 fow. Their north troll was best on a north/south pattern.

Friday, July 4, 2008

Hi everyone...hope you're enjoying the long weekend.

Weather and lake: Picture perfect, looks like a six inch S/W ripple
Who's out: Lots of recs and several charters
Action: A lot slower than yesterday
Where: All over...100 fow plus
One good area: 24N to 24.5N both east a west a bit
Spoon mentioned a lot: purple thunder (brands unknown)
Strike zone: 70' to 90' down on the riggers

First positive report: "Buc-a-roo" has kings up to 22 lbs, browns up to 8 lbs and a 15 lb. steelie...divers out 170' with Sigg's flies and trannie 70' and 90' down. They're in150 fow.

Another good report: "Lucky" is having a good day with a decent catch of steelies and kings in the 26N to 27N x 15W area. Hot spoon has been black magic 70' down. Also, his 220' diver has been good with a green Spin Doc/green fly.

Update 2:15 PM...The third positive call today was from "Pisces." They did real well today...four year olds, three year olds, steelies and browns. They were a little east of port in 80 to 130 fow. Early the DW NBK and purple thunder were hot, later their 170' and 190' divers took over (#2 set)...white/green glow Spin Docs with Sigg's mirage on one side and monkey puke on the other.

E-mail and Pic..."Hi Joe & Shirley, hope all is well with you two!   Great job on keeping us "up to date" on stuff!  All us fishermen read your page "each nite"....(better than the evening news!)  Enclosed is a pic of a recent catch aboard The Bag Lady.  This family had previously fished the East end of Lake Ontario, without much success.....I convinced them to "Try the Oak".....they did, and went away..."Happy Campers"! It was a super day...1st mate Doris, kept us right on the fish!"

Thursday, July 3, 2008

Cloudy early, S/W winds result in a bumpy ride out deep. There are probably more boats out there, but we've only heard "Rally Killer," "Buc-a-roo" and "Old Timer" on the radio.

It didn't take long for the action to start. Right off the bat, "Buc-a-roo" tied into a big one that ate a Sigg's hypnotist behind a kelly green Spin Doc. Capt. Ron had to turn the boat on her...a 28 pound female (photo should come later). They had three or four hits in the first half hour and they just landed another mature that took a Sigg's mirage/purple glow Spin Doc. These were on divers 175' and 200' out. They're in the same area as yesterday. FWIW, it's just past 7:30 AM.

We have a couple additional photos of that super steelhead taken Tuesday on "Free Spirit"...click here. BTW, here's a 'job well done' to Capt. Paul Czarnecki.

More photos...click here for several "Buc-a-roo" pics including the 28 pounder taken this morning.

Wednesday, July 2, 2008

7/1/08 E-mail and Photo..."Here are a few pics of the giant steelhead that 12 year old Joshua Cooper from Wellsboro, Pa caught on my boat today. It was 42 inches long and weighed 22 pounds 4 ounces...Later, Paul"

Our comment...WOW, and congratulations to Joshua for his trophy of a lifetime. BTW, that steelhead hit a regular sized DW slapper and it took 15 minutes to land it.

Today's Report...Good morning and that's exactly what it is...air temp in 70s, sunny and two footers from the west.

Still going like 'gangbusters' out there again this morning...all very positive reports by 9:30 AM. Not a lot of charters out and no rec talk on the VHF. The charters are "Chrysalis," "Reel Excitement" and "Buc-a-roo" (might be more).

"Reel Excitement" is cording them up again. By mid-morning Capt. Bob's party was 10 for 14...half were quality steels and half were kings (including one mature). Location: 25N to 26N x 10W to 12W; strike zone: 55' to 75' down...both black magic and the new SS super glow NBK were firing at 55', ever-faithful screwface was hot at 75'. Core: 10 x 10 pulling a SW steelie cane. Divers: 180' out, #2 set, with a 42 second Spin Doc and...you guessed it, a new A-Tom-Mik 42 second fly; the other diver was an emerald green Doc and an A-Tom-Mik pro-am glow.

"Buc-a-roo" is having another real decent day...3 matures, one three year old and a few steelies, so far. Location: 24N to 25N between the ladders and the pump house. Capt. Chas said that it is all green this morning...170' kelly green Spin Doc/Sigg's blue pulse; spoons: new SS super glow NBK and green dolphin down 60', plus a tranny down 75'. He called it another 7 on the scale.

"Chrysalis" had their best action early on mupped frogs.

Say goodbye to that June transition period and hello to a fun summer and fall.

Update 4:30 PM..."Buc-a-roo" is four hours into their second trip. So far, they have 12 in the box...3 matures, 3 three year olds and the other 6 are steelies. They are trolling between the harbor and the flats between the 24N and 25N lines. Best lures: mupped SS trannies down 75', mupped silver/green glows down 45' and kelly green Spin Docs/Sigg's blue dolphin pulses out 170' on the divers.

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

Sunshine, S/W breeze...just a ripple. A few recs are out there, including "Old Timer" who boated a 24 pounder yesterday (five miles west in about 165 fow), and three charters..."Reel Excitement," "Buc-a-roo" and "Free Spirit."

Capt. Chas' group is doing okay on salmon (lots are diving away) and steelies out front between 24N and 25.5N...170' divers and riggers 50' to 75' down (silver/green glow and trannys). The divers have a kelly green Spin Doc/Sigg's dolphin pulse fly on them. He calls this morning a 7 on a 1 to 10 scale. That DW SS silver/green glow took a 16 lb. steelhead, their largest of the season, so far...pic should follow later. There are some hog steels/bows out there.

"Free Spirit" has been into them also...no details. The Lewis family got out real early and had nine in the box by mid-morning...obviously, hot action.

"Reel Excitement" is also boxing them pretty good...half way there by mid-morning (quality silvers). They found a scum line/color change break out at 24.5N. Divers 175' and 200' out with emerald green Spin Docs/A-Tom-Mik tournament glow fly. Rigger strike zone is from 65' to 85' down...best spoons: NBK at 65', black magic at 75' and screwface at 85'. A ten color core plus ten passes with a steelie cane was also good. Target area is 24.3N to 24.9N x 11W to 13W. Capt. Bob called it a 6.5 on that 1 to 10 scale.

So, we believe that the Oak is the place to be...and the best part is that it's only going to get better.

FWIW, there is additional Oak info on the LOU messageboard...Ray Koziatek always does well. We also got quite a chuckle out of "Skippy's" version of the Aqua View FF...click here.

Update 12:30 PM...Earlier we mentioned the hog steels/rainbows out there. We should get a pic later of one that's even bigger than those we were referring to. "Free Spirit" is running it in to be officially weighed. A 12 year old boy used a DW slapper for this remarkable fish. Capt. Paul figures it to be between 25 and 30 lbs.

Today's Buc-a-roo Pics...Ron from Irondequoit NY with a 16 pound steelie (SS silver/green glow) and a 26 pound salmon (SS tranny):

Monday, June 30, 2008

Early, it was sunny with just a ripple on the water...started to cloud up around noon.

A few recs are out, including "Old Timer" and "Pegasus," and it sounds like they're doing well. Only two charters were out there, including "Free Spirit" who had a very good morning (off the flats early).

"Buc-a-roo" had a four man limit by noon and while we were talking they caught and released another three steelhead. Their largest salmon was 22 lbs, the steelies ran up to 10 lbs. and they got one 6 lb. brown. They were out front between the 24N and 26N lines for the most part. Rigger strike zone was 60' to 90' down where it was 45º. Green glow Docs and black glow Docs with Sigg's blue dolphin and green dolphin pulse flies were good. The Familiar Bite was working today also. The three hottest DW SSs were orange crush, grape picker and thunder.

So, the morning started off with a pick and then got better and better.

Today's Buc-a-roo Pics...Tom Riexinger from Gasport NY caught the two biggest kings this morning:

Sunday, June 29, 2008

Hazy sun and a small S/W chop...good conditions for a fair amount of boats.

It's been real tough out there for everyone we've heard from...yesterday was ten times as good. By 10:30 this morning, if you had two silvers, consider yourselves lucky. One rec said there was a big down temp change...59º down 55' today. Reel Bob checked the temp in close where it was 64º down 65'. Most boats are working between 150 and 180 fow. Here are a few of the spoons we've heard mentioned: GetterDun, purple frog, 42 second, black magic and twice for NBK holo.

If anything good happens later, we'll post it.

Saturday, June 28, 2008

Hi Everyone...Heavy rain and thunder in the distance at daybreak, just a drizzle by 8:00 AM. A fair amount of boats are out there this morning...here's a few of them: "Lure-Um," "Lucky," Sunny II," "U-Betcha," "Buc-a-roo" and "Rally Killer."

We were not here most of yesterday, so we will start with Friday's wrap-up:

"Lure-Um" had a good day...one chinook and the rest were steels. Capt. Mike said it was better out deeper (23N to 26N). The riggers were doing it in the morning (with purples) and his flat lines took over later (with greens).

"Buc-a-roo" was out between the 25N and 26N lines from the pump house to the glass house. Capt. Chas said that even though many were diving away out deeper, they did well with ten bites in 150 fow...one big guy landed and the rest were bows/steelies. Their deepest rig was 90' down (purples and black/gold half and half were best), also a couple hits on a 200' diver with a glow purple Spin Doc/ Sigg's mirage.

"luv 2 fish" had good action early on quality steelies that ran up to 10 or 11 lbs...they picked up a teenager too. It slowed down after 10:00 AM. They were in the 26N x 6W area...40' to 70' down on the riggers with DW firecrackers and thrillers.

"Reel Excitement" had his usual good trip (140 to 150 fow between 10W and 7W)...all kings, two matures and the rest were two and three year olds. His 42 second spoon was firing 70' down early and his half and half took over later. It was all rigger action for most of the day.

Back to this morning... the first positive report was from "Lucky." Capt. Jack said, "We've really got the rods going." Rainbows up to 12 lbs, lots of them (26.5N x 12W)...35', 45' and 55' down on the riggers gold spooks and gold half and halfs have been smokin'.

Other odds and ends: The "Deuce" is back in the saddle and doing well out in 150 fow (close to port)...not fast and furious. A Stinger gator down 38' and a white Revelator/purple mirage off a diver have been real good.

Capt. Chas on "Buc-a-roo" was out front in 135 fow when they had a Chinese fire drill with a triple...DW mupped orange crushes down 55', gold half and half down 85' and a Kevorkian on a core (knot at the water). They've also had two diver bites...purple glow Spin Doc/Sigg's mirage.

Added at 10:00 AM...Capt. Chas moved out to 150 fow and had three quick hits on the way...half and half down 80', orange crush down 50' and a Kevorkian on a core.

Added later..."Lucky" finished the day with a real good catch of quality bows/steels and kings...same area and same spoons as mentioned earlier.

Friday, June 27, 2008

Fairly calm and sunshine...quite a few boats out. They're out front, east and west...it's pretty warm in those 60 to 90 fow depths, so most trolled north. The 150 fow area depth seemed to be fairly good for a few boats...steelies and kings 40' to 90' down. Someone said it was 45º down 91', but is coming up. A few are struggling, others are doing well and a couple are doing very well...no hammer jobs, just a good steady pick on some quality fish.

No set pattern on spoons...a few that were mentioned are DW SS half and half and various purples (metallic frogs and frozen frogs). Also, various flasher/fly combos, including that new prototype 42 second Spin Doc/green & silver A-Tom-Mik fly.

Sounds like a 6 out of 10 scale day.

Thursday, June 26, 2008

Weather and lake: Warm, sunny, a one foot chop from the west

Who's out: Capt. Bob, Capt. Jack and veteran angler Fran Perry are fun fishing aboard "Reel Excitement"

Why? They wanted fresh fish for a cook-out and to recon for for upcoming trips

Action: Two hits on a 160' flasher/fly...landed one (a 10 lb. domestic rainbow), dropped the other

Where: 75 to 85 fow...9W to 11W

Reel Bob's comment: "There's been a lot of bait in here for three days. Now we're looking at a good screen, so those fish are finally homing in on them"

It's now 12:15 PM and they got out there only an hour ago...they will probably give us a wrap-up in a couple hours. BTW, they are the only boat out there.

Update 12:30 PM...Same place, same everything...a good one. FWIW, Willie at Dreamweaver made up this special prototype Spin Doctor at Capt. Bob's request...it has a 42 second spoon color pattern. Capt. Bob also said more fish are showing up on the screen.

Update 2:30 PM..."luv 2 fish" went east this morning...they started out front between the 25N and 26N lines and trolled to the glass house. They boated 10 silvers...2 and 3 year old kings, steelies up to 9.5 lbs. and one brown. The fish came 45' to 90' down on DW spoons (short leads)...purple thunder, thriller, firecracker and silver with green tape.

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

Sunny and barely a ripple from the S/W and...'all is quiet on the western front.' It's 9:30 and not a peep on the VHF so far. If there is anything later, we will let you know...probably won't be.

Update 10:30 AM...Well, at least there's one boat out there. "Tracker's" group had at least 7 or 8 hits so far...didn't say how many are in the box. They passed up the inside troll...too much bait, so they trekked north and are now between the 25N and 26N lines. A quote from Capt. Dave, "We're working on a little pick."

Update 2:15 PM...End of trip report from "Tracker." Capt. Dave said they had a real good day and there are plenty of fish between 26N and 27N.

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

There's a two foot N/W chop and it's sunny. Not many out...we only heard "Pigpen" and Capt. Chas on the "Buc-a-roo" on the VHF.

Early, it was 52º near bottom in 85 fow...lots of bait off the woods in that area. Around 6:25, "Buc-a-roo" had a big guy hit a black glow Spin Doc/Sigg's dolphin out 150' on a #2 set. A few minutes later two more went...a steelie on the 55' rigger with an orange crush and a three year old on the 70' rigger with mupped GetterDuns. Then it slowed for them and they headed north.

Meanwhile, "Pigpen" commenced action around 7:20...a StingRay went twice at 60' over 87 to 90 fow (he didn't say what they were). Several minutes later, they dumped one that fell for a one eyed Jack/A-Tom-Mik hammer 70' down.

Between 9:00 to 9:30 there was a little more action on a rather tough day..."Pigpen" had a yellow diehard Stinger, as well as a carmel dolphin Stinger, fire 47' and 56' down on the riggers. They landed both real nice steelies. This was off the woods in 95 fow. A bit later Capt. Chas' group scored again on that DW SS orange crush mupped on his high rigger.

FYI, there's a couple new walleyes pics on the Planer Board page...lots of good eating there. In fact, the old 'Buc' took the day off and is down there now (mid-morning). Capt. Ron landed a couple eight pounders and blew two others so far. He's a guest on "Small Fortune" out of Dunkirk.

Afternoon Update..."Buc-a-roo" ended his half day trip with 6 for 10...all taken off the woods in 85 fow. Capt. Chas said that all the fish were loaded with bait. Here's a photo of the first the two landed this morning:

Nice double...the steelie took an DW SS orange crush and the king grabbed a black glow Spin Doctor/Sigg's dolphin

Monday, June 23, 2008

It's calm and sunny...only a few boats are out this morning. For the most part, they're all pretty puzzled...where the heck did the fish go? Blank screens and not really many trout or salmon boated. Perhaps it will be like yesterday...a late morning bite here at the Oak or like Lake Erie off Dunkirk with it's afternoon hot bite. The three boats we've heard talking agree that's it's a slow pick and they all know what they're doing. The only spoons we've heard mentioned are orange crush, NBK and purple frog.

BTW, if the photos below don't show up, they should be there soon...temporary server problems.

Buc-a-roo Pics...Here's a couple silvers taken yesterday:

Sunday, June 22, 2008

Changeable skies (sun to overcast and back again), a nice day with a S/W breeze and just a ripple on the lake. Lots of recs and charters..."Lucky," "Buc-a-roo," "Old Timer," "Cropduster," "Troutman," "Bag Lady" and "Mailman" are some of them.

The action is all over the place, mostly west from the wall to Shadigee and north of the 25N line...surface to 60' down. The riggers/sliders and even 5 to 7 color cores were hot for several anglers. Diver/flasher/flies 80' to 100' out were also good.

"Lucky" is a ways west in the 30N to 31N area and hoovering the surface with his Pirate 44 five of diamonds program...lots of quality steelies and a king or two. "Troutman" banged them pretty good a bit west out at 25N (80' to the top)...Capt. John said he did real well there last night too.

"Cropduster" was doing it in the 25.5N to 27.5N x 13W to 15W area (mostly steels)...best lures were an NBK, a black silver purple glow at 47' and 52' and a green dolphin at 55'. Bill said it was 45º down 60' early...he also had a coho that hit a slider at 47'. Earlier, "Bag Lady" said it was their day 'in the barrel'...however, later out in the 28N x 14W to 16W, their luck changed and they they got their share.

Capt. Chas on "Buc-a-roo" said "it was a slow start and then it was a slaughter"...out front between 28N and 29N. Surface to 50' down on the riggers with the usual DW SS favorites, divers out 80' and 100' (#3 set) and ten color cores...it was 50º down 50'. By 11:00, they had a four man limit...a great day with big steelies, matures, three year olds and coho. Riggers/sliders, ten color cores (knot at release), divers out 80' and 100' with orange crush and purple Spin Doc/purple mirage and a bird. Here are a few more of those favorite DW spoons: firecracker off a bird, mupped SS orange crushes at 30' and SS GetterDuns at 35' and a mag GetterDun and a mag silver orange off the cores.

Good action out there this morning, but for some reason the VHF was silent from noon on...maybe they all went home with their limits.

Update 2:15 PM..."Lucky" had a real good day... good mix of two and three year old kings and a real nice class of steelies. Best spoons were the five of diamonds (mentioned earlier) and a rainbow colored (pink and blue) NK off a leadcore. They were in the 28N to 30N x 17W to 18W area.

Buc-a-roo Pic...This fish was taken on Friday's trip:

Ernie from Angola NY caught this 12 pound steelie on a green glow Spin Doctor/Siggs green hypnotist

Saturday, June 21, 2008

Hi everyone...we waited until we had solid info before posting. It's sunny and almost calm, pleasant air temp. Several recs and charters are out there having good luck, especially those north of the 28N line. Lots and lots of heavy steelhead action out between the 28.5N and 30N lines, much of it is between 14W and 15W...top 60' of water. Not many lures mentioned, we're sure they were the usual favorites. Some of the boats doing it were "Old Timer," "Cropduster," "Bag Lady" and "Maverick" who was doing super with nine by 8:30 AM, mostly steelies, many were quality.

FYI...yesterday "Fishin Bitch" was using primarily 'gold bellied' spoons (not brass). One hot set-up was a five of diamonds 300' back on a flatline with a 1 oz. rubber core. A purple NK mag was good down the chute.

Probably no updates today, although "Lucky" will be running an inside three hour trip from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. If he gets into them, we will post it...there's warm water in there.

Update 1:30 PM...Good news...for the last few hours, we've had a one to two foot chop from the east and the guys said the temp is coming up rapidly.
